Maddie and Joe – Old Town Alexandria

Weddings

Maddie and Joe’s intimate soiree was a love story to a city where they found love. Their day was the perfect marriage of modern elegance and chic retro vibes.

The day began at the historic hotel, The George of Old Town, the now-renovated home of George Washington. The couple and their wedding party enjoyed getting ready at this landmark location. Maddie and Jo shared an emotion-filled first look outside in the hotel courtyard. As proud fur parents, the couple also included a special first-look moment with their dog, Noodle the Goldendoodle, who would later play the special role of ring bearer during their ceremony.

Their ceremony was held at The Athenaeum, a historic art museum in the heart of Old Town Alexandria, Virginia. Just minutes from DC, the museum features unique art from regional artists beautifully illuminated by the natural light that pours into the gallery. This historic building perfectly suited Maddie & Jo’s intimate wedding celebration.

As Alexandria residents, Maddie & Jo have visited The Athenaeum and knew it would be the ideal location for their ceremony. Maddie’s mother is an artist, so exchanging their vows in the art museum felt like a special nod to one of her mom’s passions.

As guests arrived at the ceremony, the ethereal melody of harpists playing flooded the intimate space and filled it with romance and beauty. Maddie looked stunning in her semi-custom dress as she made her grand entrance through the museum’s double doors. As Maddie walked down the aisle and approached Jo, a flood of emotions filled the room as she and Jo were overcome with joy, tears filling their eyes and smiles adorning their faces.

The ceremony was a beautiful and emotional moment for Maddie and Jo’s families as they each addressed their soon-to-be in-laws with a personal thank-you message. The couple included a tree-planting ceremony during their vow exchange to symbolize the roots of their relationship and the continued growth of their love. As the couple exchanged rings and shared their first kiss as husband and wife, their friends and loved ones cheered them on by waving wands with wedding bells.

Just a short distance from The Athenaeum, The Majestic is another Alexandria landmark. The iconic neon sign has drawn customers to the restaurant since the 1930s, and this glowing feature also drew Maddie and Jo to host their intimate reception here. After the ceremony, the couple invited their guests to join them as they led a celebratory parade through the city from the museum to the restaurant.

The reception space assumed a moody and elegant vibe with dim lighting, beautiful flowers, and glowing candlelight. Guests enjoyed signature cocktails and passed apps during cocktail hour. As Maddie and Jo danced the night away, they were surrounded by their closest family and friends. The love they all shared created such a fun and exciting atmosphere!

Maddie and Jo’s wedding in Old Town Alexandria was a truly unforgettable celebration. From the visits through some of Alexandria’s most iconic buildings and the heartfelt moments shared at each, it was a day that they will always cherish.
